Jendema, Soro Gbeima Chiefdom, Pujehun District, The ECOWAS National Office, led by Mr. Komba Momoh, in collaboration with representatives from the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Social Welfare, as part of the Sierra Leone National Technical Platform on Cross-Border Cooperation, Free Movement, and Migration, convened with stakeholders in Jendema, Pujehun District, on Friday, May 17, 2024.

The meeting aimed to identify a project for immediate implementation under the ECOWAS Cross-Border Cooperation and Free Movement Support Program (ECBCSP).

In his welcome address, Paramount Chief Mustapha J. Massaquoi expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) and the technical committee on Cross-Border Cooperation in Sierra Leone, along with the ECOWAS Commission, for their initiative to enhance cross-border cooperation. He pledged his community’s support and highlighted the need for a market facility to accommodate the community’s growing needs.

Mr. Komba Momoh thanked the community stakeholders for their warm reception and conveyed greetings from the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Madam Kenyeh Barlay, and other technical committee members. He informed the community of ECOWAS’s commitment to supporting short-term cross-border cooperation and capacity building.

Mr. Momoh emphasized that the ECOWAS Cross-Border Cooperation and Free Movement Support Program (ECBCSP) is a multi-sectoral development initiative aimed at fostering social cohesion, regional integration, and sustainable development in border communities. He highlighted the critical role of local cross-border cooperation in driving regional integration and urged the community to engage in consultative processes to ensure the project reflects their collective needs.

Community members expressed their gratitude to the government and the ECOWAS Commission for their support and goodwill towards their development needs.

The discussions concluded with a site visit to one of the proposed locations for the market construction.
